Andrew Good asked:

Get Download Festival tickets now at Stubhub.com!

When bands do reunion tours, or for whatever reason get back into the game of touring nationally or internationally, it’s always a good thing for music fans. It means that your favorite artists, the ones you grew up listening to—maybe by replaying one song on a mixtape over and over, wishing you had an album by them—will finally be able to play for you live.

The Download Festival is a great opportunity for this, especially in 2008. The three-city festival that tours this summer will be appearing in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Philadelphia. Headliners include noise-pop legends The Jesus and Mary Chain, post-punkers Gang of Four, and in Philadelphia, Iggy Pop and The Stooges. Bands that are getting lots of airplay these days, like electro-rockers Ghostland Observatory, ethereal synth band M83 and the electronic patchwork quilt of Cariobou will all be supporting headliners.

This will undoubtedly be an exciting tour to attend, if only to see the major headlining acts. The Jesus and Mary Chain took influence from The Velvet Underground, and in a way shadowed that well known art-rock band by becoming an influence to the shoegaze bands that followed them. Songs off their most popular album, “Psychocandy,” include “Just Like Honey” and “Taste of Cindy,” both songs that have gone on to become favorites of music fans everywhere.

Gang of Four was in the music press quite a bit four or five years ago, when the post-punk revival flooded records stores with bands that borrowed their chicken-scratch guitar work and tense vocals. The infamous post-punkers fortunately decided to begin touring again.

Iggy and The Stooges needs no introduction. A crucial rock act that set the bar for how insane and dangerous a live show can be, Pop had aged but his live performances still have not. Everyone living on the East Coast is lucky to get to see him at the Philadelphia show.

This July, make sure you get Download Festival tickets so you can enjoy these bands and more. There’s really no excuse when the lineup is this good. Look up some tickets now on Stubhub.com!

Rita R. Powers asked:

The thrill of attending any Broadway show can not be overstated. You can experience the crisp and emotional songs of musicals, the beauty of design elements and the excitement of a character coming to life before your eyes. New York City’s Theatre District is known for its world-class performances. Broadway is New York’s top entertainment draw. This year, the Great White Way continues to showcase the popular favorites from 2005, while several new plays are also slated to open.

Continuing on from 2005 into 2006

At the Majestic Theatre, Phantom of the Opera continues to break attendance and ticket sales records. The show arrived on Broadway on January 26, 1988. On January 9th, 2006, the musical became the longest running play in the history of Broadway with its 7, 486th performance. Phantom won several Tony awards, including best musical, best performance by a lead actor (Michael Crawford as the Phantom) and best performance by a featured actress in a musical (Judy Kaye as the opera diva Carlotta Giudicelli). Additional Tony’s were awarded for lighting, scenic and costume design.

At the St. James Theatre, The Producers opened in 2005 and continues to enjoy sold out performances. The Producers has won more Tony awards than any other show on Broadway. This Mel Brooks musical is about a Broadway producer and an accountant who convince various elderly women to invest in a Broadway show. They over capitalize the show, taking in more money than they can ever payback even if it was to become a hit. They produce a musical that they are sure will never make it past opening night and make plans to take off with the money. Their “best laid plans” go awry. The Producers will run through 2006 and will continue to delight ticket buyers.

The Color Purple opened at the Broadway Theatre on December 1, 2005, and has been sold out every night since. This production has been said to stir the soul. The Color Purple grosses about 2 million dollars a week in current and advanced sales. It is considered to be one of the top 5 revenue producing musicals on the boards. Some predict that in 2006, The Color Purple may top all current musicals in ticket sales.

Other plays that broke records are Beauty and the Beast, Doubt, Jersey Boys and The Lion King. Beauty and the Beast , at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, set a record in sales of $1,229,825 and is the 6th longest running show of all time. Doubt broke records for the Walter Kerr Theatre. This play has won both Tony and Pulitzer Prizes. Jersey Boys at the August Wilson Theatre continues to be considered Broadway’s freshest and newest musical. The Lion King, another Tony winner, will be moving to the Minskoff Theatre in June 2006. This play’s record sales breaking momentum is sure to continue.

Coming in 2006

Mary Poppins, the extremely popular 1964 Walt Disney film, has made its way to Broadway. Performances will begin in October or November of 2006 at the New Amsterdam Theatre. Mary Poppins has had a tremendous run in London and will no doubt become very popular in New York.

The Wedding Singer will open on April 27, 2006 at the Al Hirshfeld Theatre. This musical is based on a very popular movie, which focuses on a man named Robbie Hart who sings in a band that performs at weddings. His desire to find the girl of his dreams comes at one of his wedding gigs when he meets an enchanting young woman. They become friends but she is engaged to another man. If the Broadway play is as close in popularity as the movie, tickets will be difficult to obtain.

Tarzan, another popular movie, is set to open on Broadway during the month of March. It is the story of a boy raised in the wild by animals; it was first a novel written by Englishman Edgar Rice Burroughs. The popularity of Tarzan in literary or film form.

On March 12, 2006, Ring of Fire, a musical tribute to country legend Johnny Cash, opens at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre. This year Walk the Line, a movie about Cash, won several Golden Globes. If it can hold the boards, this play has the potential to bring innumerable country music fans into the Barrymore.

Broadway’s success in 2005 has rolled over into 2006. As many as 30 new shows are slated to come to Broadway in 2006. Some will be huge hits and many more will close in less than a week. Is the next Phantom of the Opera waiting in the wings? Only time will tell.

Andrew Gibson asked:

Many tourists visit Malaysia each year on their holidays. They are attracted by the beautiful diverse landscape and the cultural diversity that this popular country has to offer. Some holiday makers stay in self catering holiday accommodation in Malaysia and they use these holiday homes as a base to explore Malaysia.

There are some stunning holiday villas with swimming pools in the coastal regions of Malaysia. It is also possible to rent self catering holiday apartments in some of the bigger cities.

The name Malaysia itself suggests that the country is a minuscule of the large Asia.
Julie Cudney asked:

Tragedy marked with irony is a staple for the dark comedy genre and The Marriage of Bette and Boo tickets give theater-goers another show to experience in this group. The story is narrated by Bette and Boo’s son, Matt. He takes the audience through a journey from his parents wedding to their dissolution more than 20 years later. Boo is a drunk and Bette is neurotic woman who has had successive devastating stillbirths.

No better is the rest of Matt’s family. His grandparents on his father’s side include a man who is completely absorbed in work and loathes his wife. His mother’s sister is certifiably insane. The town priest can’t even inject hope into his congregants and seems more like salt in the wound than a band-aid. Matt brings in his take on many of the events and shows how a young man can reconcile living in such an environment. The subject matter may seem depressing, but the fast-moving, 33-scene show adds ironic and comic commentary to keep the plot seeming surprisingly light and make The Marriage of Bette and Boo tickets worth a night out.

The show is written by accomplished playwright Christopher Durang. He has a large body of both plays and musicals including History of the American Film, Sister Mary Ignatius Explains It All For You, Baby with the Bath Water and Laughing Wild. He has acted in a few of his productions as well as others and has worked with stars like Sigourney Weaver and Julie Andrews. He also has appeared in movies like The Secret of My Success, The Butcher’s Wife and Housesitter.

Kate Jennings Grant plays Bette and has been on Broadway in Poof and An American Daughter as well as Off-Broadway productions like Radiant Baby and Summer of ’42. She has been on TV in shows like Cold Case and Law & Order and movies like United 93 and When a Stranger Calls. Christopher Evan Welch takes on the role of Boo and has appeared in shows like Romeo and Juliet, The Crucible and Much Ado About Nothing as well as been on TV and in movies like The Stepford Wives. Charles Socarides plays their son Matt, and his credits include The Missing Person, Old Money and Indian Blood. Other members of the cast include Heather Burns, Victoria Clark and Adam LeFevre.

The Marriage of Bette and Boo explores deep-rooted issues than many families will have to face at some point. By framing them as just part of life, this production lets the audience easily connect with characters. See it yourself with The Marriage of Bette and Boo tickets.
